Maryam Mirzakhani, an Iran born mathematician, is the First Woman to Win the the Fields Medal (‘Nobel Prize Of Mathematics’).
It does not mean that she is the first brilliant woman mathematician, but is the one first given.
The timing is very intriguing though like it was in 90's when the Indian beauty pageant contestants suddenly found themselves as Miss Universe and Miss World in the mid of globalization era.
Whatever the reason for delaying this award to be bestowed on a female mathematician, congratulations!
It is no wonder; even in engineering, I find female students do and focus far better than their male counterparts. However, when it comes to getting the right jobs (and salaries), things for "unknown reasons" work the other way. Sad State Of Affairs!
